Although it's not easy addressing certain sex issues especially with your child, the risks of leaving a child uninformed or misguided is life-threatening. Talking to your teen about sex is your responsibility as a parent.
In this day and age there is no way to prevent your teen from being exposed to sex, and the risks of doing it, the temptation, or curiosity. The only way to protect your teen is to be sure that they are properly informed about sex and how to protect themselves and know their options and consequences. Do not rely on thinking your teen will not have sex, the risk of this is simply too high.
An uninformed teen is a risk on their health and has life long consequences. Telling your teen not to have sex is not enough and is wrong and results in a teen not telling you what is going on.
Be sure to make yourself an informed and approachable and available parent for your teen to come to you with questions and seek advice. Don't cut off communication. Understand your teen and foster confidence in your teen.
